30pm – Sarasota Riverview vs Arlington Country Day:  The day will begin with perennial powerhouse, Arlington Country Day taking on Sarasota Riverview. ACD comes in ranked #7 nationally and has a perfect combination of size and athleticism led by juniors, Dante Buford and Che Bob as well as senior Nikola Jovanovic (6’11, USC signee). Jaylan Robertson and Brandon Francis will be tough to contain in the backcourt. Riverview is a frontrunner in 8A and hopes to make the trip to Lakeland from region 2. They will lean on the leadership and play of versatile big man, Nick Havener and tough guard, Austin Walker. They play intelligent basketball and have role players who can step up and knock down shots.

00pm – Lake Wales vs Montverde Academy:  Lake Wales is coming off a state title in class 5A and looks to continue the success as they start the season against Montverde Academy. Kevin Boyle begins his second season with Montverde and expectations are even higher as they begin the season #3 in the Max Preps national poll. Montverde is highly rated and equally skilled at each position starting with senior PG, Kasey Hill (ESPN #9 in 2013, 5-star athlete signed with U of Florida) and finishing in the post with Dakari Johnson (ESPN #3 in 2014, note Dakari recently announced his reclassification to the class of 2013). In between is Devin Williams (6’8, signed West Virginia), Deangelo Russell (ESPN #12 class of 2014) amongst several others. Lake Wales will rely on the high energy and sharp shooting from Douglas Brooks and a duo of point guards in Savonte Frazier and Marcus Dewberry.

30pm – Lake Highland Prep vs Dr Phillips:  The third game of the day features Lake Highland Prep, preseason #17 in the USA Today poll versus Dr Phillips, an early and usual favorite in 8A.  Dr Phillips begins the season hoping to continue their streak of 19 straight years of 20+ wins. Lake Highland has their eyes set on a state title, but has a tough road ahead. In the meantime, everyone will be in attendance ready to watch one of the great matchups of the season as Joel Berry (ESPN #10 and reigning Mr Basketball) goes heads up against Rashawn Powell (an ESPN top 100 and a big part of the current Memphis #3 recruiting class in the country)

00pm – Berkeley Prep vs Orlando Christian Prep:  The host team, OCP will welcome Berkeley Prep in a battle of highly touted players from the class of 2014. Orlando Christian Prep is the defending state 2A champion and has been to 4 straight finals fours and won 3 state titles in 1A under Coach Reggie Kohn. Berkeley Prep has been to the regional finals for several years and looks to jump to Lakeland with one of their best teams under Coach Bobby Reinhart. Four year varsity PG, Justice Montgomery will control the tempo, but three super athletic, skilled and highly touted juniors, Jonathan Joseph, Dmitri Thompson and Adonys Henriquez (ESPN #35 in 2014) will dictate OCP’s success. Berkeley Prep will certainly rely on the heavily recruited Justin Gray, as well as NNamdi Green and Marshall Holmes.

You aren't going to find a better 8 team field in the high school season!
