No. 1 Chino Hills Blows Out Mater Dei
Mater Dei is no pushover. In fact, before we heard of Chino Hills we knew who Mater Dei was from their consistent level of play over the years. Their coach Gary McKnight has the most wins in California high school basketball history. According to USA Today, Mater Dei was ranked 22nd nationally. None of that made much of a difference to Chino Hills Friday night. They treated them like they were a below average team AT BEST, trampling them 102-54 and racing to 30-0 on the season. After the game McKnight said, “I haven’t seen a running clock ever before. Our guys looked shell shocked.”
Los Angeles Times described this loss for Mater Dei as, “perhaps the worst defeat inflicted on a Mcknight-coached team in 34 years.”
Chino Hills has reached the 100-point mark 16 times this season. The Ball brothers of course had their skills on display as they dismantled Maiter Dei. LiAngelo finished with 34, Lonzo dropped 25. They would get major contributions from Eli Scott (23 points and 12 boards) and Oneyka Okongwu (6 blocked shots). This was said about LaMelo.
Never seen a 14-year-old basketball player more fearless than LaMelo Ball. Can't wait to see what he looks like after his growth spurt.
