Markel Fultz is Making Quite A Fuss
If you know anything about DMV high school basketball you know that it's too much talent to possibly know about every last athelete. The WCAC alone showcases some of the best talent in the nation. Dematha star and WCAC Player of the Year Markel Fultz was one of those hidden talents just a year ago. The 6-4 combo guard played JV but quickly transitioned to varsity and a year later is turning heads in the DMV. His DC Blue Devil play has helped him rack up a host of colleges (14 offers) such as Arizona, Kansas, Louisville, Virginia and even Kentucky is in the mix. Fultz is explosive in the open court and showed that many times this past weekend. However, playing for the Blue Devils has opened up other areas of his game. The DMV already knew he could score but he also showed himself to be a versatile guard who can also create for his teammates. He improved his defense as well.
One of the things I love about him is his desire to be seen as versatile. He doesn't want to be seen as solely a "combo guard." In fact he wants to be seen as a player capable of playing the 1, 2 and 3. According to USA Today his exact words on the matter were “I don’t like being seen as a 1 or a 2 or a 3 — I like to be seen as a guard who can play all the positions." Louisville offered him a scholarship two weeks ago and Kentucky came to see him play this past weekend.
Fultz has played in two Under Armour events in April will take some time to look over his options. He's mature in the sense that it's impotant to him to get the education he'll need to be an accountant, how much time he'll play and how he can grow as a player. He aspires to make it to the NBA however if not being an accountant is a great back up plan. If you aren't famiiar with him I advise the DMV and the rest of the world to take watch.
