JUCO PG Mike Rodriguez Commits to Southern Illinois

Well that didn’t take long. Just one day after announcing guards Chaz Glotta and K.C. Goodwin are transferring, Southern Illinois has landed a commitment from JUCO guard Mike Rodriguez.

The 5-10 point guard from Boston, MA was one of the premier players at the JUCO level, averaging 22.5 points, 6.1 assists and 4.3 rebounds a game for Marshalltown Community College.

He held offers from Colorado St., Fairfield, FIU, Manhattan, NC Central and interest from West Virginia but citied Southern Illinois’ loyalty as the main reason he committed.

“ They (Southern Illinois) were the most loyal. They even stopped offering people because of me.” He told Courtcred.com. “I trust these coaches, they said they’re going to give me the keys to the offense.”

In Rodriguez, the Salukis are getting a do-everything point guard who’s ready to step in and make a difference.

He played his high school ball at Redemption Christian Academy in Troy, NY and starred on the prestigious BABC AAU program.
