WCAC Update: This Past Weekend

Gonzaga went 19-0 to start off the season. They fought some of the toughest battles without their superstar Nate Britt. Kris Jenkins made sure he sent sound waves throughout the DMV with several stellar performances. Then Nate Britt returned. Since his return his team is 2-2.

Friday, Gonzaga played Dematha on ESPN 2. The world got a chance to see how intense the battle was. The score was 76-47. The score was 33-27 at the half. Gonzaga only scored 20 points in the second half, suffering their worst loss of the season. Nate Britt led his team with 21 of those 47 points. Jerami Grant had a team high 19 points, while junior guard Jairus Lyles  and senior big man BeeJay Anya chipped in with 15 points. Lyles' contributions were timely as senior guard Jamal Robinson was ejected from the game with two technicals fouls. Lyles gave us a flash of what to expect as he will be running this Dematha team next year.

Sunday, Gonzaga and Paul VI were in an all out war. a game that ended in double overtime by the score of 85-83. I know the names that you are used to hearing about when Paul VI is mentioned. Enter Coleman Johnson, aka Mr. Clutch. The only 3 pointer he hit his whole career took his team into the second overtime. Johnson ended with 33 points/16 rebounds. Nate Britt lead his team with 35 points while the big ticket (Kris Jenkins) chipped in with 28 points. Paul VI is now 15-0 in the conference. They have beaten Gonzaga both times they've played them.

If you know anything about the WCAC conference you know this is just a regular dog fight. A fight to ghe death. What a game!
