Paul VI; WCAC Perfection
This has been one amazing year for the WCAC Conference. Some have said it's the toughest conference in the nation. I'd like to put my vote in for that. Reasons such as this; there have been so many buzzer beaters and last minute heroics that have kept fans glued their seats until the game clock stopped. Sunday afternoon was no disappointment when top team in the conference (Paul VI) faced the #2 team in the conference (Dematha). With this win Paul VI is 26-2 overall and 18-0 in the conference. Ironically, within the past 50 years, the only other team to have gone undefeated is Dematha. As you can imagine this was a very tight game and came down to the wire. Stan Robinson only scoring 9 points, came through big within the last 30 seconds of play. Missing a open layup he used his quick hops to tip in his own miss. If his shooting slump was an issue for visiting coaches, it had to be overlooked by his last minute heroics and ability to pull through when it's clutch. I was under the basket at UMBC tuned into the MIAA Conference Finals action up in Baltimore when a former teammate sent me a text alerting me that Paul VI's victory. Later on that night I was thrilled to see who had footage of the game. If you missed it, see the video below for highlights and interviews via Washington Post.
