Joe Mc “WHO”

The DMV area is huge. So many teams, so many players, SO much talent. What tends to happen is that you overlook players or dont give them as much attention as you will some of the "big time" names. Although I must say that it can be more work than you think to notice ALL of the players I do implore you to keep your eyes open to more than just the ones that you hear of night in and night out. Take for example senior guard Joe McDonald , some call him a point guard some call him a shoot guard while others say he is a combo guard. Well, if you haven't heard of him dont feel bad. I have been covering high school basketball for about 4 years now througout the DMV and have never heard of him, until this past weekend. While I was at the Basketball Academy and while Paul VI was in a dogfight with Dematha just outiside of DC in Alexandria, Va Joe dropped 49 points. These 49 points were more than half of his teams points as he won the game for his team in overtime. What's ironic is that there was no front page news article on him, yet as a junior he earned All-Metro honors. Maybe the WCAC action overshadowed him. A combo guard that averages 23.5 points a contest has a knack for scoring back on Fridays. On January 7th, on a friday, he dropped 31 in a win against Flint Hill. What's even crazier is that he also dabs in football. Let's take a closer look at these 49 points though scored on this past Friday tho.

I came into work and one of the engineers told me that they went to a game and witnessed a kid by the name of Joe McDonald score 49 points. This came against an Episcopal school with a player that the DMV is definitely aware of; Kethan Savage. It would've amazed you the enthusiasm the engineer had as he explained what he saw. The game went into overtime and apparently, thats when McDonald went off. Within the last few minutes he came up with two big steals and ended up hitting the game winning 3 pointer to win the game for his Landon squad. With the All Metro credentials as a junior, playing on team takeover, and this year averaging 23.5 an outing so far you would think college coaches would be sending offers left and right. Right? Actually, when you go on his rivals.com page there is NOTHING. Thank goodness ESPN has a little bit of something on him. They state that he is "a true point, that he is unselfish, and that he is a terrific rebounder for a guard." Well on this past Friday not only did he drop 49 pointsbut he also snagged 18 rebounds. CRAZY right, and he's only 6-1. I would say that whomever gets this DMV guard will definitely pick up a diamond in the rough. He resembles Monta Ellis and from his Friday night play attacks similar to how he does as well. Stay tuned for more on him folks.
