Brooklyn Rivalry Renewed: Lincoln vs. Boys & Girls

It doesn’t matter if you are from Brighton Beach (Lincoln), or Bed Stuy (Boys & Girls), or any part of NYC for that matter.  When Boys & Girls goes up against the Abraham Lincoln Railsplitters, you know the atmosphere is going to be electric.  Since 2007-08, including the playoffs, Lincoln is 8-4 against the Kangaroos. This is the second meeting between the schools this season.  After suffering a 64 – 74 loss to Lincoln last month, the stage was set for Boys & Girls to change the losing trend against a hostile but for them friendly home crowd.  From the opening tip, Boys & Girls came out swinging, but Lincoln would always have answers to whatever the Kangaroos were throwing at them.  This game came down to the wire, and unfortunately for Lincoln they had to go down the stretch without guard Isaiah Whitehead.  Whitehead injured his ankle in the third quarter and would not return.  Senior G/F Leroy ‘Truck” Fludd and sophomore Wesley Myers stepped up big.  Lincoln had no answer for Fludd and his big 230 pound frame proved to be a little too much for a suddenly reeling Lincoln team.  Fludd wasn’t alone though.  Myers proved to be a problem for the Lincoln guards as well.  The kid has a bright future and could be one of NYC’s best guards right now.  It is scary because he has two years left.  Overall a good team effort by Boys & Girls.  Whether it was grabbing rebounds, hitting open jump shots, tight defense or blocking shots, this is why they came from behind in the closing seconds of regulation.  Lincoln's Ethan Telfair missed two critical free throws which put them up by just three with seconds to go.  With 8.2 seconds left, Truck was fouled on an attempted three point shot sending him to the line.  After Fludd calmy nailed all three free throws, the announcer calls it first.  "WE ARE GOING TO OVERTIME FOLKS."  In overtime, the Kangaroos pulled away from the Railsplitters 72-65, tying the season series 1-1.  These two teams seemed destined to meet again in the playoffs, but this time though, it will be win or go home.
